The story is based on a personal experience of the author, Ned Vizzini, and he wrote this book right after he got out of the hospital.
I personally thought this book was really good, even though at times it seemed really graphic and unnecessary. The story was very interesting and unexpected, but it flowed really well. There are a lot of different characters that were hard to keep track of. The author did a good job of setting the scene of the many different places Craig goes throughout the book. The authors writing was really descriptive of each character, which made the story more believable because everyone was so unique. The descriptiveness was also not always a good thing because he would be descriptive about the wrong things and the parts that weren't important to the story. Overall, this book had its ups and downs, but was a really interesting read and I would strongly recommend it.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves realistic fiction, and also is okay with darker topics like depression. I think that most of the people in our class would enjoy it, and they would all get something out of it.
Warning! This book has swearing, sex, a TON of romance and relationships, major drug use, and large portions of it were just gross, to me at least. It also contains heavy topics like suicide, depression, self harm, and other mental issues.
