The Small Chink in the Armor (part 4)
Before you read this I recommend reading the other parts before reading this one so it makes sense.
The bubble's glowing had subsided and it was only light on the inside, again. I just don't get it. Why would the hulking beast bring us here, I mean, we are part of the smallest town in literally all of the I.N.T.S. (international northern trade services, all part of Continent 4, or Europe, formerly known as northern Europe). We have almost no trading facilities, and our entire land has been smashed into shards of ruins, the outskirts are that bad. We were once a thriving colony, a small body that would generate millions of dollars daily. It all changed when the famine struck, I know this may sound cheesy, but it was bad. Not a fish was left because the water was so bad. Almost any piece of food had something wrong with it, there was literally nothing not rancid here. That is when the I.N.T.S.H. (H for headquarters) saw our weak point, and they used it to smash us, so they could take control. This is when we were forced to move back and become a reclusive county. This means that the International Trade has been cut off, and any flow to us is gone, just like that.
Now look where we are. I mean, hasn't the headquarters stripped us down to the bone enough already? Now this. What are we supposed to do. That was when I saw it, out of the corner of my eye, could it be? No, it was too easy. The small glimmer that came from the side was exactly where the two spheres touched. I rapped at the intersection, and heard a soft, "what?" They sounded exhausted. I looked back up again at the spot and realized that it was partially see through. I saw into the small room and saw a small figure draped onto the wall like unfolded laundry. "Can you hear me?" I tested through the glass. "What?" This time it came louder and more resilient, like they were fed up. Soon after, a quick "Where are we? OMG!" panic conversation ensued. Neither of us had a clue, but are stories were ridiculously similar.
Then a sound like a herd of over a thousand buffalo seemed to run there way around the cubes, the pounding excruciatingly loud, on the verge of unbearable. When it stopped, I realized that it was a machine, fixing the bridge between the two pods. When I looked back up, I saw that the clear glass had turned back to its white, and it was non-transparent. I pounded and pounded, but nothing seemed to open up the only portal to see another human. It seemed like they wanted to put us into even more misery than we were already in. But why? What did we do wrong?
It seems like they are teasing us. first the light, now this. Haven't they done enough?
In a last hopeful chance, I ran up the wall with a bust of energy, but this time reached the halfway mark. This set off the alarm, like last time, but I was expecting it, so it didn't frazzle my nerves. The red line appeared again, but I realized where it was coming from this time. A transparent row of electronics that lit up across the circle. That meant that there had to be some way to get through there. But how? It was too obvious, it shouldn't be that easy. I poked at one, testing it, barely being able to reach high enough. Nothing happened except the alarm was set, and my finger was slightly in the way for that section. Feeling around the circle rim, I could tell it went all the way around, it was on the same level as the top of the pole, and there were breaks every 1.5 or so feet.
There must be a weakness in here somewhere. It can't just be as simple as something so easily visible. At this point, I had gotten used to the blaring of the sirens in the background, and my mind was spinning. What was that smell... The last thing up above was a small hole with a squealing sound escaping it that light fog was pouring from. All that I saw was the red line barrier *sleepy* deactivate as my *so, sleepy* eyelids slid slowly *So sleep-* shut.

I hope the character doesn't die! I only hope he gets put in one of the cryostatis chambers and preserved (I think that's what those pods are...)
ReplyDeleteOh no! All there hopes keep on being false! What did they do wrong? Nice story, I hope the main characters are freed soon!
